Frequently Asked Questions¶
Login & Access¶
Do I need to be on the TUKE network to access the Cloud Portal?¶
Yes. Access is possible from the internal university network or via VPN tunnel.
VPN guide: https://uvt.tuke.sk/sk/vzdialeny-pristup-cez-vpn
The domain doesn't work during login — which one should I use?¶
You always need to select the ad.tuke.sk domain. Other domains (e.g., vsphere.local) will cause errors.
I forgot my Cloud Portal password. How do I change it?¶
The password is not changed on the portal. It's managed through the TUKE Single Sign-On system: https://uvt.tuke.sk/sk/system-jednotneho-prihlasenia
Virtual Machines (VM)¶
When will my VM be created after submitting a request?¶
The VM is not created automatically. The process is as follows:
- Submit request
- Request must be approved by Cloud system administrator
- Only then does the VM start being created
Note
Approval takes place only during business days.
Which operating systems are currently available?¶
Currently available OS:
- Windows Server 2025
- Windows 11
- Ubuntu Desktop 24.04
Older OS have been removed for security reasons.
What disk size will I get when creating a VM?¶
Each VM (Windows and Linux) has automatically allocated 250 GB disk (unchangeable, automatically set).
I need special VM parameters (e.g., more CPU, special VLAN…). How do I proceed?¶
Such configuration is not possible through the portal. Contact Cloud Helpdesk: vcloud@helpdesk.tuke.sk
My VM shut down after some time. Why?¶
Each VM has a time validity. After expiration, the VM shuts down and after another 90 days it's deleted. Extension must be manually confirmed via Change Lease.
VM Validity Extension¶
How do I extend my virtual machine validity?¶
In the Deployments → Actions → Change Lease section, select a new date and confirm.
Will I receive a notification before validity expires?¶
Yes. You will receive several emails about approaching expiration. Teachers and administrators may also receive notifications.
Licenses & Software¶
Do I need to activate Windows license?¶
No. Windows OS license is automatically configured, centrally managed, and no configuration is needed.
Are other programs automatically licensed?¶
No. Each user must secure licenses for third-party software themselves (e.g., Office, development tools, professional applications).
Can I uninstall VMware Tools?¶
No. This leads to immediate VM cancellation and data deletion.
VM Connection¶
How do I connect to a Windows VM?¶
Via RDP (Remote Desktop). The DNS name is provided in the last email.
How do I connect to a Linux VM?¶
Via SSH:
Linux with desktop also supports RDP.
Administration & Support¶
How quickly is my request processed?¶
Usually within a few hours during business days. Requests are not processed outside business days.
Where can I report a technical problem?¶
Contact Cloud Helpdesk: vcloud@helpdesk.tuke.sk
How do I delete my VM?¶
In the Deployments → Actions → Destroy section. After confirmation, the VM will be removed.
